Could anyone tell me what Ki-gas actually is - where to buy it/ how to make it, and how do you use it to start a TE-F 20?
Thanks

Tim, Ki-gas is the trade name of the manufacturer of the excess fuel starting device it's not a type of fuel. The small, round tank just behind the dash should be filled with diesel. The full instructions for using the system can be found in the Ferguson Diesel engine instruction book, which I would suggest you get a copy - about 9 pounds from FOFH. Very briefly in cold weather, pull out the heater plug switch ( left side of dash) for about 15 - 20 seconds. Pull out the Ki-gas knob, then push in sharply. This directs a spray of diesel onto the hot heater plug. Then operate the gear lever starter for around 10 seconds and the tractor should start.

Thanks for that, Peter - it explains the puzzled look on faces when I've tried to buy it!
My Fergie has always started using just the cold start button on the injector pump and a good pair of 6v batteries - I'm not even sure the heater switch is wired in. Its only recently its getting hard to start - guess the batteries are getting old - I'll try the Kigas method!
Cheers

Actually there is Kigas its not just diesel as you were told although we all use diesel, the same arrangement is used on some light aircraft engines and they aren't diesel.

I've been playing with a Lister LD stationary engine and it has an oil/diesel injection arrangement on inlet manifold to help with starting. Its just a wee reservoir that you fill, then push a plug in and it squirts the oil into the manifold. I suppose it must have been a common way to do it at one time. (Not that it has got it going yet - I reckon its just too worn to get enough compression to start.)
