Reduction gears ?

Hi Guys
I have just come across a fergy in a paddock and it has a lever on the right hand side round panel of the diff housing where the dip stick is. Is this a reduction gear? The engine is petrol but I can't read the serial number.

It sounds like a Howard reduction gearbox. The serial number wont be much help in this instance as they were fitted after manufacture of the tractor. as used for slowing the tractor travelling speed down when you use a Howard Rotovator

I have seen where someone has put the dipstick plate and the pto lever on the opposite sides (can be done); is it possible it's just the usual pto lever? Sorry if this is too obvious but it sprung to mind.
