I'm still working on the well lubricated breaks, (oil seals will be replaced) but in the mean time, it gets a little more complicated. Pushing in the clutch pedal may or may not have any effect on the tractor. When it works properly, the clutch disengages at about halfway though the pedal's travel, consistently. Many times however, it goes to the "floor" and nothing disengages. Sometimes pushing it again (and again) will work, sometimes just leaving it in for a few seconds will work. It seems to be worse when under a load. (I haven't noticed it the PTO being engaged or not has any effect.) I've never had an instance when it would not disengage at all, but there are always those few seconds of anticipation. Any ideas?

Clutch disk is sticking. May have some oil or grease on it. Split tractor replace disk, throw out and pilot bearings. Resurface flywheel if necessary. Check engine main seal and transmission input shaft for leaks. Renew as necessary.

Alternative fix, which fixed clutch on my '52 Dodge pickup. Find a stout tree back up to it and slip the clutch. Under treat rather than over treat as a burned clutch is not so good either.
