I saw the TO35 I mentioned a couple posts earlier (guy wants $5800). It is a nice original, but certainly does not look new or "restored". It is a green belly, by the serial number a 1955.

The Tractormeter says it has 3600 hours at 1580 rpm. Not sure what this last reference means, but my question is.....how many hours do these tractors typically run before needing an overhaul/

The owner said he did not believe the engine had been overhauled, but it ran fine.

Regarding your comment on the tractormeter, since it is a mechanically driven device, it will only read true hours at one rpm. In your case, it happens to be 1580. That's probably the peak torque output rpm from your engines certified torque curve.

That price is waaaaay too high. Shop around a bit more. I'll bet that tractor will still be there if you decide you really want it.

depends on how hard it was used and if regular maintenance was performed and if those are hours are correct.

You can usually tell how much one has been used and well maintained by the condition and slack in the lift arms. The hour meter means nothing after about 5 years. Look at the clutch petal, and the foot rest for wear. A Perkins will run for years after needing an overhaul. I have seen the thurst washers down in the oil pan and they were still running very good. MF35s are worth a lot less money with the 4cyl diesel, or gas. Make sure it has a 3cyl Perkins for that kind of money or your mother n law may find out that you have been had.
