Just purchased TO35 that hasn't been running for several years.Noticed it has a TSX 458 carbureter instead of TSX 605 or 683. Isn't the 458 used on the TO30? Will the 458 cause my tractor to be hard to start? Thanks for your response.

Thanks for your immediate reply and interesting comments. I agree with both of you and after I check several other important areas I will let you know how I made out. Since this tractor hasn't been run for several years, about 10, I have an interesting challenge ahead. Will get back to you later.

Ray.....Jerry is correct....the 458 will replace the 683 with no problems. The 683 is getting harder to find these days. I have run both on a flow bench and the differance is not quite noticeable...The 458 does have just a tad better flow. I have also installed both on my Z134 while on a dyno and still no noticeable differance between the two after proper adjustment is made.
You should not have any starting problems....

Ray, Good question. The TO-30 uses the 458. I believe the displacement on the TO-35 is 134 in3 and that's about 3.6 % more airflow at a given rpm. Since the venturi may be smaller in the 458 (and I'm guessing about that), the delta p across the venturi throat will be some greater meaning more fuel should get sucked in also (I'm thinking out loud here!). I guess I can't say for sue that you'll have a problem without knowing more about the other carb, but my first thought is that less than a 4 % airflow increase is not going to give you too much trouble and you may be able to make it work by adjusting the mixture. Sorry I can't be more definite than that. Give it a try and see. Let us know what happens.
Just make sure the ignition is up to snuff, the timing is right, and you have good fuel flow to the carb (these old machines have plenty of crud in the fuel tank that can plug up the carb fuel supply so make sure you have plenty of fuel to the carb) and the air cleaner is clean.
