I am reinstalling the rear axles on my TO-20 after replacing the seals and I have used enough shims so the axles do not touch each other(I can spin one and the other stays still) but there is still a little play.The book says .3000 clearance between the ends and when I pull on each axle they will come out slightly. How much I do not know but less than 1/16th of an inch.I am sure this is way too much since it is not close to .3000. I am not sure how to get inside easily to measure between them but as anyone who has done this knows it is very difficult taking these in and out to remove or add shims. How much play is too much?? I use the tractor for fun and some light work once in awhile.

I think you should begin removing shims until both wheels turnm the same direction, then, begin adding shims only just until the axles begin rotating in opposite directions. It doesn't really take that long. I just did this operation a cpouple of weeks ago. By the way, MF 35 shims will also work. They just have more holes.
