Hi all, i need a discription of the oil line from the pump to the ram....

I was lifting a bucket of grevel, and the tractor lifted up the front (as usual), but suddenly it hit the ground in a speed that told me something is wrong, and the strange marks i got in the forehead from the steering wheel....
The gasket blew, right under the seat, and sprayed oil all over me and the tractor, it was quite smokey for a minute or so....
BUT how is this, is there a pice of pipe sticking up of the tranny, and in to the lift cover, or is it just the thin paper gasket????? ?
I cant remember, i had it apart one year ago.

If its a TE20, its just a paper gasket, maybe you haven't tightened the hydraulic cover down in a while, so the gasket has blown. You will need to remove the cover to replace this, dont forget the control valve linkage needs detaching BEFORE you try to do anything. If you have forgotten how to remove it, let me have an email address and I will send you a sheet with all the things you need to know about doing this job.

Hi John

I was afraid of that, i hoped there were a few parts missing, and that was the problem, but if you say theres only the gasket, then thats the problem, and i dont have time to wait for a new gasket, so i have to make one, and im afraid it will blow again.....
but do you have the torque for the bolts on the pump and ram cover??? its one thing to tighten, but i wont tighten it too mutch/little....
They say theres snow coming on monday, so i have to get her fixed in time....

Hi Jone, If you take my advice you wont even try to make a gasket for that...all that pressure you know, will easily blow it out ad you will have to do it all again.Sorry I dont have any torque settings for that at all. Just tighten it all evenly, if you do have to resort to making a gasket coz of the snow, try some gasket cement on it. I am not a lover of this at all but under the circumstances maybe no option for you. Beware of the control valve, it is attached to the fork, you have to open the legs of the fork to ease the tee piece on the control valve out,if you dont you will break the stem off the valve.

Depending on the year, you may have a bracket holding the legs of the fork together too. There is a 1/4" bolt on each side (7/16" head); you only need to undo one of them.
I have successfully made gaskets for this application but would recommend fairly thick gasket material so you can compress it quite a bit when you torque down. I don't have the torque figures either but would estimate I torqued the bolts down to about 90 pounds, working from the centre out.
Also when you take it apart you will see that the gasket, if original, was quite thick and it will be a time-consuming job to remove the old material. I used a cup brush on an angle grinder, but you have to be really careful not to drop the gasket material into the fluid or it may clog up the pump.
