Can you get new contacts from the MF dealer ? or is there a way of bypassing all this with some sort of push button ? I have cleaned the two copper plates with no luck

The part you need is the starter switch that fits on top of the clutch housing under the battery...You can get it as Sparex part # S42538. If you havent had this off before, be careful you dont drop the operating rod down into the cltch housing, try tying a piece of twine to it so you wont lose it...its a bit fiddly to do becuse you dont get enough movement on the rod.

Starter contacts are pretty much generic. I'll go along with ford solenoid, if you want, but any good electric shop can provide the correct contacts, or close enough that you can file them to exact. Have fun, and good luck...by the way, you can probably clean yours up enough to get by for a while.

Glen. This is Al in BC
My suggestion in regard to your Starter switch problem is to take it out and carefully take it apart. Get some plastic shim stock from the machine shop and shim up the poles to level after you have cleaned them both. Put back together and voila new switch. Remember in the UK where this switch was devised , they were made to be able to repair without to much lost time without leaving the farm . It is fixable with little expense. If you have questions give me contact on the back burner and I will phone and talk you through it. You should be able to pick up my email here.

Just use a Ford starter solenoid and a momentary switch of some sort.

If you use a solenoid, you will lose the safety neutral start feature. I almost got run over with a Ford tractor because someone by-passed the safety.
