PTO shaft - TO30 finish mower

I now have a shiny new PTO shaft. But before I cut the heck out of it, too, I'd like to see if there's a better way. I keep thinking longer lift arms would be good. Or perhaps some sort of extensions on the mower? Or something else? That way I wouldn't have to cut the shaft and it might actually work better if I have to lift it...

How do you all do it?

I lost two PTO shafts that way...

I fixed it with a cable tie locking my lift control in the down position. That fixed that for a whole lot less money than trading in a mower.

I know you won't like to hear this but my solution was to replace the mower with one that has the gearbox at the back instead of the front.
That way I didn't have to cut the standard shaft and the longer arc of travel when raising and lowering let everything work 'according to
script'.

I wouldn't suggest longer arms because when the mower is raised, the extra leverage caused by that would make these tractors even more likely to rear up than they already are.
