Hi...

Been lurking here for a few weeks now.

Today my 1955 TO-35 with loader was delivered :)

Here's the story for background before I get to the tranny problem:

Looked around the yard, said, "That debris has got to go!" and loaded up the bucket and went to dump it in the old "bulky waste" dump on my property.

I was working to push the pile of debris off the edge some more, when I let my front wheels get into soft ground. So backing out was a challenge as I started to dig ruts with both rear wheels.

Got a shovel, dug out the back of the ruts. Between that and rocking I backed up enough to use the loader to give my self a push to get out of the ruts!

Ye haw...now I know better, but I stopped before the front wheels cleared the ruts. So I rocked a few more times, and when I was at the high point of the backwards rock I clutched & braked, and used the loader to give my self another push...that work, of course I blew on of the few hydraulic hoses that hadn't been replaced -- no big deal on that, that I know how to replace!

Lifted the loader to get it off the ground...wow, a lot of hydraulic fluid came out! But that's OK, I knew it would happen and it had to be done. Loader runs off a front-mounted hydraulic pump on the fan belt shaft.

I backed up OK, I put it in 2nd/High and started towards the house. Decided 2nd/High was a bit fast with bucket in the air, so I put it in 2nd/Low and continued.

Went to back into the new tractor parking spot...uh oh, hey, I'm still going forward. Jiggle the handles, jiggle the clutch. Seems I'm stuck in 2nd (maybe 1st? Not positive). I did drive up & down my long drive way again in both ranges just to see if something would loosen up to no avail.

I know this:
-- Clutch works, and least push it in and power doesn't go to the wheels no more.
-- High & Low Ranges work.
-- I'm not hearing anything that sounds terribly wrong, like clanging metal.
-- Drawbar seems to work A-OK for the hydraulics going up and down.

I opened the transmission oil fill, I didn't see fluid, but I don't have the manuals yet so I don't know how high it should be. On the good side, I didn't see any gears that looked like they where in pieces. Moving the shift did make a little movement in there.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Matt

Wow! Fixing the tranny was as easy as said!

One of the hydraulic fittings didn't want to come off the pipe, and I was afraid with my big torque ratchet I'd end up bending/breaking the pipe before the fitting broke free.

Aw shucks, that forced me to go to Wal-Mart (NAPA was already closed...) and buy the right tool. Took me longer to put in the nipple to the Air Impact Wrench than it did for it to take off the fitting! Woo Hoo!

Thanks!

Of course...now it's raining and I can't back it into the garage :) And the canopy I ordered to store it under for winter won't be in till late this week...so I got to wait to fix it! I'm not quite desperate enough to work with a tarp draped over my head!

Hey Matt,

Marlowe hit the nail on the head. Be patient, and you will feel it slide right back into place. Iv had to use this method 4 times now. Twice on my account and twice when the neighbors used it. Worked everytime. Enjoy!

first WELCOME to the world of tractors.second this is no big deal that its stuck in gear just about all ferges do this at some time in it's life and 9 times out of 10 it's when your changing gears fast and the reason is the person doing the shifting will pull up on the gear shift lever. so pull the filler plug on top of the trans. next to the shift lever and you will is the shift rail. use a small pry bar and line up the rails with a little practice you will get it and at the worst you might have to lift the cover but try the plug trick first. as to oil in the trans. to check the dip stick is on the right side under the set on the side of rear end housing [sitting on seat]. to fill use m1103 mineral oil [not 80-90 gear oil]
