Interesting TO-30, TO-20, or is it a TE-20.

Yesterday, I went to the Oklahoma state fair. The local tractor old iron club had a nice display of Fords, JD, ACs, Case and even a Ferguson.

At first glance I thought it was a TO-30 at it was painted red and gray. However, there was no air inlet on the dash, and the owner's placard identified it as a TO-20. Not to be fooled I decided to look what engine it had. Indeed it was a contential Z12? 300A. Ah haw, someone in the past ground out the tell all "0" or "9" on the engine number. The scroundral.

Ok look at the Sereal Number. The ID plate was attached... And SN: TE42___ : A '48 TE-20 then perhaps. Back to the engine to see if it has Lucus or AC electrial... Changed to 12V.

The engine was different than my TE-20 in a few ways.

1) it had the clock dial manufacturing date just in front of the engine number. It also had a ID plate on the engine just above the solanoid. This was not readable.

The air intake was also modified with a T0-30 type upper intake but it was facing forward under the hood.

It looks like may we have a TO-30 engine change on a TE-20 frame.

Any Ideas?

Jeff...
I have a 1950 TO-20 that has the Continental engine and apparently there is/was a rebuilder that took the 120 cu. in. engine and made it into a 129. I think that if you look at the engine numbers cast into the block and see the 0 ground off...there is a 9 hand stamped in it's place. At least thats how mine is. I'm 4 miles west of Greenfield if you want to come and look at it. No one came forward with info on who the rebuilder was. I'd like to have one of those P&G gages to tell for sure. Would it be just sleeve/piston change...or would it need a crank change...or both? Fred OH

Well I looked at the ground number pretty carfully and did not see another stamped number. Oh well it was fun to look at.

I may just take you up on looking over your TO. I live just down the street off Oh28 just west of Blanchester. I need to go to Brainbridge soon and my tractor is down in Pike CO. so a grand loop some saturday may be in order. Although every forseeable weekend is booked right now.

my to20 has a clock dial and then the Z12 cast and
an O stamped. does that stamped O means it has been rebuilt. what does the A600 mean cast after
the stamped O. thanks

Today I purchased a Ferguson tractor with a data plate at the steering wheel TE 34672 The engine block is Z 120 34952 and another block number of Z 120A 600 WF 3-1 ( The A has a T below it.) It has a Lucas starter and Generator. It has a Marvel Carb and a D3A4-0 distributor. Can somebody tell me what year tractor I have???

I have SN TE 79263
Engine is 120A600N with the 0 ground down and a 9 stamped in it.

Anyone know what year this is. I am thinking 1950 -51

Jim According to the serial number information supplied to me, you have a 1949 tractor. The 49 year started with S/N 77773 and 50 started with S/N 116551

Bill,

You have a 1948 TE20 Ferguson Tractor. I have SN TE429##. The engine is a contential Z120 engine and the origional lucus electrical system. How long have you had it?

Hi Guys
I have a ferguson to-20 when I bought it the guy told me it had a new short block in it. I looked it over and it has the mount for the outside oil filter cast in the block (not drilled) it has Z12_ cast but where the 0 or 9 would be it is flat and the 0 is stamped in. I talked to my old ferguson dealer (he is 83) and he told me they put two of these in to-20s it is a to-30 block not drilled to use the to-20 pan. At the time the company must of quite making the 120 block.

The spot for the "0" or "9" was deffinently ground out. There was no spin on oil filter. Please note that I am now running off of memory because all the notes I took I left in the hotel room befor I flew home. Oh well.
