Loosening individual cylinder head nuts

On my TO-20 there are two of the headbolts which have old "P" clamps under them that some previous owner ran a wire through and up towards the front of the engine/tractor. Now there are just fragments of wire in the clamps. I'd like to run the thermocouple wire for a temperature gauge through the clamps as it would be a nice neat routing for it, or, if not then just remove the old "P" clips. Do I run a risk of cracking the head if I just loosen one head bolt at a time and then tighten it back up again? What torque do I use to tighten it back up. It looks like these may not have been disturbed for some decades, maybe I should just leave well enough alone. Comments?

Steve, I doubt that removing a head bolt and retorqueing it will cause a problem. Just do it on a cold engine. I just moved and don't have my manual handy so I can't quote the torque spec. (I have a TO-30 and I beleive it to be like 70-75 ft-lbs.)
