New TO35 owner needs Help!

Hi all, I'm posting this message in both the Ferguson and the Massey Ferguson because there seems to be discussion of TO models in both boards.

I'm the happy and proud new owner of a Ferguson TO-35 Super (Gas) Ser. No. SGM197578. This is my first tractor.

I have ordered all the manuals but they have not yet arrived, so I'm hoping someone can help me get back in operation.

My tractor has a loader and the hydraulic hose running from the left side of the tractor to the control cluster for the loader was leaking quite badly. So I remove the hose and had another one made and installed it. So far so good, but...

I have two problems.

First, the lift on the loader is now verrry slow. It used to go up and down swiftly, now it barely moves. I'm wondering if I need to bleed the system since I must have introduced air into it. If this is correct, what is the procedure?

Second, the fluid level is low. I know from reading messages here that it should have 90 wt gear oil in it. Problem is I don't know what is in it now? Seems to be pretty thick but it is not clear brown which is what I would expect of 90 wt gear oil. Rather it is the color of coffee with cream in it. Any ideas? Do you suppose it would be ok to add 90 wt gear oil to whatever it is?

Is this my old friend from Hayward and Davis? If so, I would love to re-establish contact.

Cheers, Ken

Guy,The best thing you can do for you to 35 is change all fluids. Start with the trans oil, as for what to use, My suggestion is do a search and believe me you will find more discussions than you want, because this always brings out oppinions. Mine is follow the original reccommendation of GL mineroil. Good luck and be safe.

I certainly agree with TerryMi on this - the colour you describe sounds like water in the oil, which is a very common problem (condensation). The other thing is that you say the oil is kind of thick - the recommended 90 weight mineral oil (meaning no additives; look for specification GL-1) only seems about as thick as 50 weight motor oil. It could be that some previous owner put 90 wt. hypoid oil in there which is much thicker.
Let that stuff drain for a long time; it takes forever, and there are about 6 US gallons.
