My 52 Ferguson will not start I replaced points and condenser and have good spark the compression is 50 75 75 50 and comes up when oil is applied to the cylinders all plugs are firing gas is in system but it will not even kick. I am wondering if the timing chain could have jumped. This is the Vanguard Standard engine. IF anyone has any advice or suggestions please let me know.

remove the dust cover under dist. cap could be shorting out on it especially if top bush is slightly worn . mine was, took weeks to discover the problem.

Fixed it was the rotor button replaced it and points and condenser but it was the rotor button that was the problem.

I have the exact same tractor. When I got my tractor after the timing chain had broken, ripped all of the govener weights off, striped a sprocket, and broke the casting out of the bottom of the timeing cover. I don't know if this was a common problem, but it couldn't hurt to check the timing chain. Is your distibuter on right (not 180 off). I really don't think these are the problem, because you should still get something, even if it is just a cough. Points:
Gap should be at .20 measured at point at largest opening.
Points should be completly free of any kind of oil even the oil from your hands can cause a problem, clean them with a little alcohol or WD-40

What tuning specs did you use? It's hard to get the right numbers for a Standard motor, and after a lot of looking around I think I got them. Look for my post one or two pages back, because I listed the specs for another fellow.

using a point setting of .15 right now have no fire so am going to get a new coil put in new points and condenser not much change really. Tractor still no go.

Have you checked the timing? As well, our tractor decided not to start one day, so then I pulled the carby apart and found it full of dust from the fuel tank. After I gave it a thorough clean, it was alright.

Starting problems are really frustrating, but are usually pretty simple if you take things one step at a time. As long as you know the ignition parts and settings are all correct, then you can deal with other things like the fuel system and so on.
