Directly in front of transmission drain plug on my TE20 is a hole with cotter pin. There is oil leaking from that hole and after parking tractor over several hours a small puddle forms on floor. Where is the oil comming from and what kind of job is required to correct leak?

Check the oil colour - black and its engine oil - from the rear main oil seal.

Treacle coloured and its from the gearbox input shaft.

Both mean splitting the tractor - and while you are in there, do both seals, and the clutch/pilot bearing/thrust bearing etc. That way you only need to do the job once.

There are two holes with cotter pins in them. One directly below FLY WHEEL where Block attaches to transmission housing and the other further back beyond the clutch and brake shaft directly under the steering housing about 1 1/2 inches in front of the drain plug for transmission case. This is where the oil is dripping out of.

I just overhauled the engine completely replacing the rear main seal and also the oil seal in the main drive shaft retainer assembly. This is why I am wondering where this leak may be comming from. You both may be right, but, if the leak was comming from the front hole below fly wheel I would be considering the rear main or main drive shaft oil seal.

Maybe after my explanation you may have another idea for me to consider. The gear box input shaft, I would like you to explain that in more detail if you would. Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.

It is possible that the leak is coming from the bottom shaft of the gearbox, there is a plate in the back of the clutch housing and the gasket leaks sometimes, it could be coming from there. If you would like an exploded drawing of the gearbox, let me have an email address to send it to.

I would appreciate any help you may have. How do I get to the gasket? Hopefully, the drawing will illustrate for me what is possibly leaking. Any additional info you may have to shed light on problem and solution surely will be appreciated. Thanks.

Is the oil engine oil or transmission oil? If it's engine oil, it could be the rear main seal; or, I believe there is a soft plug over the bore for the rear camshaft bearing and it could be leaking from there. Odds are that it's the former. It could also possibly be the front seal on the tranny.
