Remove sheet metal

I will soon paint the sheet metal on my to35 and was wondering is it worth the effort to remove the sheet metal around the steering column? I am afraid of messing up the govenor when I unhook it. That is the only part that is not easily removed for painting. Thanks for any comments

Rick is correct of course that its best to remove it. However, if you remove the steering wheel and drop all the gages, you can get by without removing it....

Dear Terry
Ive done 4 tractors lately ( 3 off 35X and one FE 35) which are identical in this department to the TO 30. Trust me. Its worth it. About 4 bolts plus steering wheel and a split pin in the throttle shaft. The hard part is the steering wheel which usually feels like its welded on. The Governor is not a problem. You just use a stripe of paint to mark the position of the bolted clamp on the throttle shaft before dismembering. It takes about 15 minutes all up and its even worth sending panels to be sandblasted if you want a top job.

You will have no problem with the governor adjustment...as this is done on the rod from the carb and as you are not altering that it wont cause you any problem....all you have to do is when you come to rebuild the dash panel, just move the throttle lever to where it will be when you put it to idle and make sure the carb linkage is also at idle and tighten up the clamp bolt. As long as you can shut the engine down with the throttle lever it will be ok.
