I have had my 1948 TE-20 since I was 10, I am close to 40 now . Two years ago I had the motor over-hauled. Last season the ole Fergie worked great but now when I am using the disk or blade either one does not stay up when the clutch is in. The hydraulics work ok when disking or the blade is down but the implements don't stay up like they used to. The disk used to stay in the up position without lowering much. This tractor has been a workhorse for many years. Do I need to over-haul the hydraulics?

Well maybe not "Overhaul" as such, but obviously something is wrong. If the implement takes about 4-5 mins to fall to the ground with the engine off its acceptable. If its less than that you will have to find where the leak is thats causing it, if the hydraulics lift fairly smoothly then it would appear the pump is ok and not at fault. Remove the round cover with the dipstick in it from the axle housing and check inside if there is a leak from the top and is it towards the front or the back of the housing. If its the front it could be the gasket under the ram cylinder or if it is the rear it could be that the piston rings on the lift cylinder are worn and require replacing. If that is the case the top needs to come off, but dont do that without checking how to do it or you will damage parts unecessarily. If the top is ok check if the oil is swirling in the bottom, around the pump, (seems unlikely from what you say though)KEEP YOUR HANDS OUT OF THE HYDRAULICS WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING if the leak is in the bottom then the pump would have to come out, again seek advice before you do this. You may like to check this site listed below for more information. You can of course come back here too.
