The guy who rebuilt the head on my TO 30 says they're called lash caps, is that right? Look like metal caps smaller than a dime. They're 4 of them & they set between the exaust valves(I think) & the rocker arms. Some how, 2 have come up missing since the tear down. MF dealer says there $50.00 for a set of 4, no splitting up. Can't bring myself to bite that bullet just yet! Can they be found cheaper? Do they necessarily have to be for a TO 30? Is that the correct term for these? I appreciate the help you guys have been on this project. Sam

I was in the same boat as you and took a piece of drill rod and flat bottom twist drill and made them on a bench lathe. Heated them slowly to cherry red and quenched them in water...figured if that didn't crack them...they'd be as hard as I could get them. I haven't heard any valve clatter yet...been about four years now. L8R....Fred OH

I have both rotators and lash caps...sorry I should have read your post instead on glancing at it.. if you have both and need just lash caps you can buy them direct from cv-products in Fla. They sell mostly racing stuff but they have every size They are 1.75 each and save your valve stems from flareing and miniumize rocker arm wear..... .

The "watchmacallits" are valve rotators and you bet you need tham on your TO-30. They rotate the exhaust valve slightly every time it goes through its up and down motion. It helps keep the valve seat clear of carbon, so that for the short amount time that the hot valve contacts the seat it can get some cooling from the cooler valve seat. It helps your exhaust valves last longer. Try an automotive machine shop and I'm sure you can find them for sale individually at less than the MF dealer. If it was me, I'd replace them all to be on the safe side. When I had my head rebuilt they were all replaced even though only two were defective. The valve job cost me about $400.00 so I wasn't going take any short cuts to save a few bucks and have to go back a couple of hundred operating hours later to replace some exhaust valves again.

You are correct...they are lash caps...I agree thats kinda high...I would measure valve stem diameter then call napa , jegs or auto machine shop..or anybody that sells valves can get them for you....
