For question #2. There is a "rod" that has balls on each end that run in the sliders on the hood and then attaches to the front of the gas tank (with a couple of clips). The rod looks like a V or U. This keeps the hood open at any angle and keeps it from opening too far. If the hood opens too far it hurts the aluminum piece on the bottom front of the hood. I have a TE with a completely restored original hood. From what I've seen it is rare to have all the original aluminum parts of the hood. The aluminum parts on mine were quite cracked and bent requiring welding and body work to get back in shape.

My TE-20 is a 1948. The aluminum parts of the hood on this tractor are: sides that are riveted in the middle, the middle strip of the grill and the piece at the bottom of the grill. I don't have a digital camera to be able to send pictures - if you want regular pictures let me know your address. My local MF dealer has a complete schematic of this TE hood which clearly shows the hood rod.

What years had aluminum. Mine has all steel. I got a used hood from another one to use for parts. It is different again in that the side panels are two peices riveted to gether half way along. The hood on the machine now has one peice sides.Oh, mine is a 52. Or at least most of it is.
