I have had trouble starting my TO 35 since taken out of storage this spring. I have replaced points, condenser, and plugs and set the timeing with the 6 degree mark on flywheel. Still no luck, the battery doesn't seem thave enough energy to make it spark and run. Turns over slow, even though I have charged and even used jumper cables. As soon as I can get to town I will pick up a new battery, Any suggestions on size for a TO 35? I did notice the positive cable on battery smoked and got hot when I turned over to try and start? I will replace as much of the wires as possible. Appreciate any suggestions.

For some reason we don't seem to get this problem over here, but I have heard mention of fuel 'going off' over on your side of the pond - so have you tried changing the gasoline for some fresh stuff?

From the smoking wiring, a bit of TLC sounds in order, make sure all earth (and other) connections are clean, bright, and tight.

Maybe a service/rebuild on your starter motor?

Just some thoughts.
