What Ferguson Model Do I have?

Recently I bought a ferguson tractor and was told it was a 1953 TO30. I have a problem with the carburetor that bears the name ZENITH. The carb has 2 numbers on it above the bowl that contains the small round float I need to replace. The numbers are 241-2 on the side of the housing and 61264 or 61284 on the top of the housing. The radiator has a tag that says made in coventry england.

Please advise how I can tell the difference between a TO or TO 30. Do you have any idea where I can find a serial number on this beast so I can get the correct parts for the tractor.

From what you say you could have a TE not a TO
TE was made in UK, TO was made in Detroit
Serial number should be on a plate just in front of the steering wheel shaft, where it goes though the dash panel with the throttle lever. A TE had a Continental enine on the early ones and a Standard Motors engine on the later ones, and a TO had a Continental engine. Quick visible check is Oil filler for engine is at rear left side of engine on a Standard and at front left side on Continental. One other way to tell is the gearbox housing...on a TE its made of magnesium electron (like aluminium) on a TO its made of cast iron like the axle housings.

I have looked at the area for the serial number plate and it is GONE!!! The oil filler is on the left rear of the engine and the number stamped on the engine is S102057E. I therefore believe this is a Standard Motors Engine but I still don't know the model, TE or TO 30.

Anyone have any other ideas

Standard engines were not fitted to TO models only Continental engines, so its a TE

Did you check what the gearbox housing was made of like I said in my earlier mail, cast Iron for TO tractors and magnesium electron (like aluminium) if its a TE...I am pretty certain you have a TE20...serial number tells all.

Check you engine model number on the left side. If it says "Z120" then you have a 20 series tractor if "Z129" you have a 30 series.

As for a TE or a TO tractor look at the Distributer. if Delco you have a detroit made TO if it says Lucus you have an English made TE.

TE- Tractor England
TO- Tractor Overseas (i.e. USA)

Sounds like you have a Coventry, England built TE or TEA. There should be a plate just below and in front of the steering wheel which should bear a stamped serial number. If you can let us have that we should be able to tell you exactly what you have.

My father-in-law just gave me TE ferguson, the serial # TE 48791 is on the plate under the steering column. Could you possibly tell me what I have? I've just read the forum pages and read your response to another question. It hasn't been run for over a year. When it was last run it would run for awhile and then just sort of dies out like an electrical drain. Just had a mechanic look at it this evening. We both feel it is electric, he's never seen a TE before. Will I have trouble getting parts? Thanks for any info. Thanks!!!!

I have a 1953 TO-30. It has a Marvel Schebler carburator, not Zenith. The I.D. tag should be right in front of the steering wheel column.
