TO-30 starter

My TO30 starter has gone out. Must be just one segment, but it won't start unless I move the starter. It seems to be a Delco-Remy 1109457. I'd like to either rebuild it, or since I have changed to 12 volts, find a newer, possibly automotive starter, that would do the trick on a 12 volt system. ANybody have any leads on this?

Thanks Phil, Barry and Glen. I took the starter to a shop. I was told that running a 6V starter on 12 V won't hurt it. Also that if the windings in mine are too bad, they will rewind it for 12V.

As Barry said, most automotive electrical shops can rebuild these starters about as good as new, much much cheaper than buying one. Parts are no problem to them.

I had the same problem with my starter. I took the old one off and took it to a place that rebuilds them. When I got it back and put it back onto the tractor, it turned the old girl over like never before. I kinda think now that maybe the old started had been going down for a while before it finally burnt out. I was a bit concerned that with the age of the tractor, ( Its a 1952 TEA-20 ) that maybe they couldnt fix it. They did, and my tractor starts now better than it has in a long , long time. Just my 2 cents worth,,, Barry

does your starter gear jump back to the ready position or is it stuck in the ring gear ? I though my starter was toast but the problem was too much bure on the ring gear . The starter needs that big spin and then pulls into the ring gear just a though
