First off this is a great site for very helpful info. Thanks.

Okay the problem is that after I had changed out my manifold, replaced connecting rod bearings, refreshing seals all over the place and replacing all ignition parts except the coil my tractor is not running up to power like it had before.

I ahve checked the timing and that seems to be okay, about 8 degrees at 7-800 rpm. The power loss come when trying to climb any hill. In neutral I can get about 2100rpms out of her but tryng to go in gear the engine won't excellerate under load. I am waiting for a carburator rebuild to come and have an idea that that may be part of the answer. The other thought is is my governor working properly. Its a 54 TO30 with the ball type governer and that I have not touched.

Any help would be great.

Tom

Does the governor work at all? If you watch the governor linkage as you open the throttle wide it should speed up and then the linkage should move and shut it down to its correct governed speed, if it isnt doing that you will get same effect as you are telling us. If the governor seems to be working ok have you checked the main jet adjustment of the carb?...If you say the carb needs a rebuild, possibly you need to open the main jet to compensate for any wear that allows more air in and is weakening the mixture

John,

I did check the governor as far as when I add power in neutral it does hold the engine from over accelerating. It does seem that it won't let the engine rev when power is needed.

well you could try putting the tractor in gear (2nd)at about 1/3 throttle and start to engage the clutch with the brakes on and you should see the governor open the throttle on the carb. If it doesnt do that, try moving the lever coming out of the timing cover by hand to full throttle, if its working you should feel it pushing the throttle towards idle again and if it is, maybe its just a matter of adjustment on the rod to the carb. MIND YOUR FINGERS IN THE FAN

Hi John,

I did try pushing on the throttle linkage and yes the governor pushes it back towards idle ok. So maybe it is a linkage thing or could it be the timing is off?

Does it open the throttle when it comes under load though? You should see it move the lever to open.

I would check the electrical system again and be sure it is in order.

Make sure you have the plug wires on the right cylinder, if you have one crossed, you'll definitely have a power loss.

Thanks I'm planning on rechecking the timing and also the carb settings.
