TO-20 Engine Outlet Elbow

Attempting to find out the correct name for the engine outlet elbow, water jacket, etc. This is the casting from the top of the valve block to the radiator return. I have tried various names and the TO part number on the casting but have not located this item.

I checked on my TED last night, and the casting is integral with the cylinder head - at least it is on a Standard engine - if yours is a Continental perhaps it is different - Continentals over here are not that usual - we consider them almost rarities!

The part is called a "gooseneck", the proper name escapes me. The thermostat does not fit there, it goes inside the upper radiator hose. Here's a list of North American salvage yards.

Try 'Thermostat housing' - it's what we would call it over here.

Its aluminium, yes? And bolts onto a cast iron 'snout' coming off the front top of the cylinder head?

I have seen 'new' not OEM ones available, but cannot remember where. Will post link if I can remember . . . . . . .

Aaaahhh, I see now.

But I cannot help, as I don't think it has a name - you could try 'lower thermostat housing'?

I thought it was an integral casting with the cylinder head - at least, that's how I remember it, but will check on mine when I get home.

From the sound of it, you may have to resort to a long hunt around scrap yards and breakers to find one.

You could try Appleby's of Silsden (see link below) who may be able to help - at a cost . . . .

If nothing else you could ask them for more details or advice at any rate. I am sure they would help.

If you still have some of the parts (if it's just broken, rather than missing) you could try re-creating the shape from JB weld or similar - as the pressure the cooling system runs at is quite low.
