Recommendation for Brush Hog?

I want to get a 5 foot brush hog for my TO-20. I have access to Woods, Kioti, Bush Hog and others.

Does anyone have a view as to best construction and best value for money? I think I need a medium-duty type, capable of cutting 1 inch trees and brush.

I purchased a Howse 5' brush hog for use on my 8N. It was just under $600 and well made. I used it for two years just fine although it bogged down in high/heavy growth. Sometimes I could only use half the hog at a cut. If I had it to do over again, I'd go with a 4'. 5 foot is just too big for the 8N or TO20/TO30. I believe I could have cut more grass/brush with a 4 footer that a five footer. The four footer will be easier for the 3pt hitch to handle,too.

I have a 4 foot Bush Hog Squealer model and pull it with my TO20. It does a good job on clump Alder brush up to 2 inches in diameter, but on heavy-high grass I cut about 2/3 of a swath. Pull in first gear. I believe a 5 footer would be too large and I'd still have to take a partial cut at times.

Whatever you do just don't go over 5'. I managed to get my TO-20 to do second gear in waist high grass sometimes and thats it. You just don't have the power to manage any more. While your'e at it get an overrunning clutch PTO conversion unit. I used the one I borrowed without one but wouldn't make a habit of it. Agrisupply has them for $25 and mine works as good as the US $60 version. They sell an italian made line of brush cutters called Coroni. I don't know much about em. As far as I know everyone makes theirs with one step no primer paint so the paint isn't going to last with any of them. Just keep it painted and clean it every Fall.

in the past I would favor Woods, but today I think Land Pride is just as good, for less money.
