The tractor I just got, 1953 TO-20 wasn't running when I purchased it. The previous owner couldn't get it started. There are new plugs, wires and points in it. He said he also had the carb apart. When I got it home, I just cleaned out the old gas and fixed a bad ground cable, and it started up just fine. There is no smoke out the stack, (some out of the crankcase vent tube that goes into the air cleaner) and I checked the compression, 90 lbs across them all. It idles fine, but when I put a load on the engine, it pops back through the carb. It seems to do it every time the governor pulls the carb linkage. Any ideas? I first thought a bad intake valve, but the compression seems ok, could it be timing? Maybe an advance problem? Lean or Rich mixture. I'm more familiar with V8's and 4 barrel holley's, this older stuff is all new to me. Help!
