1 to 3 minutes and stopping sounds like a fuel problem, you're right (How many times have I pulled out into the road and then stopped because I forgot to turn the fuel on???). To check this, undo the drain tap on the carb, and check to see that you get a really good strong flow for at least 3 minutes. I don't like inline filters - they will always slow flow down a bit even when new - if you keep the sediment bowl and gauze filter clean, and if your fuel tap on the tank is clean and clear (check this too, by undoing fuel line and checking flow straight out of the tank), you will have no problems with fuel starvation. As I've said before, I keep a magnet wrapped in a cotton glove finger in the sediment bowl as an extra 'filter' for the fine particles. Cheaper than an inline filter, doesn't restrict flow, and shows you the crud that it's caught, and let's face it, these days fuel is pretty clean, it's only what comes out of the tank you need to catch. Suggestion for main jet adjusting screw - as it sounds like the threads are getting a bit worn - remove the screw completely, and slide a compression spring over it before screwing the screw back in, this will reduce the effects of vibration. Alternatively, you could wrap some plumbing TPFE tape around the thread before replacing the screw. I have a Zenith carb, and the spring fix works OK for me. Only possible drawback for the PTFE tape fix is a piece of tape blocking the jet . . . .
