TEA oil pump question for james in UK

James I read that responce for Ray about head clearance on the oil pump gears, I check mine with plastic gauge it squeezed out to .003 should I go with this ?

Thanks James I think that I will hone down the cover plate its has the most wear I might end up with .001 or .002 clearanse .

Hi Glen,

That depends - what's your oil pressure now? 0.003 is probably not doing you any favours, but to be honest, the aggravation factor of honing down the pump body to improve clearance needs to be weighed up as well.

I have a feeling that mine shows around 5 thou clearance using my calibrated finger nail - not good at all, but it still stirs the gloop quite well.

If (like mine) the gauge shows 10 to 15 psi at full throttle, I wouldn't worry too much. Less than that, then it would be worth doing the work on the oil pump when you next do an oil change, or need to be inside the sump area.

Slacken off the union on the engine when it's hot, and check the 'spray' of oil, as suggested.

Probably not the definitive answer you wanted, but the best I can do, long distance.
