Oil Leak From Steering Column Housing

I recently purchased a 1955 Ferguson TO-35 Deluxe. It has some oil seepage, nothing alarming, but I have noted oil dripping where the steering column enters the housing; essentially just below gage panel. When I turn the steering wheel a very small amount of oil will spill over. Any cause for concern? This will be a work tractor kept nice - but not restored. I don't want to lose perspective after all; the tractor is almost fifty-years old. Thanks for your thoughts. Jim

Paul,

Thank you for taking time to reply. I agree with you, it doesn't seem to be a significant problem. There are others more pressing right now, like recovering the chunk of starter housing that back fell into the tractor. Right now its stuck, hope its not necessary to split the tractor.

Again, thank you.

Jim

Jim; I own a TEA 20 and know that leaks from the housing are faily common with these tractors. I have even heard of putting grease instead of oil in the bath area to stop the leaking. I'm not familiar with the 35 but it may have a filler plug in the housing. I don't think it's of great concern but if you want to tidy things up, you could always put in a new gasket. Paul ew gasket.
