Got a couple Consumer Warnings based on the school of hard knocks/doin' it the hard way:
First-- Got a Speeco 3-point Quick Hitch for my Fergie TO-30. It will not fit on the Fergie! Do NOT buy one, they are around $200+ and now I got to sell the one I bought. I tried and tried but the Speeco hitch is for newer tractors. Even then I did some measuring and found that none of my implements will fit the Speeco either, the hook dimensions prevent them from fitting the drawbar posts, not enough clearance under them. And the Quick Hitch makers don't publish the dimensions, so look out. Anybody know what kind of quick hitch WILL fit the Fergies?
Second-- Caveat Emptor the Zane Thang, for me that was another waste of money and it has never maintained my implement position right, my 3-pt. implements always drop, just not as quickly as without the ZT. The theory's good, the design's not. I have fudged with, adjusted, readjusted and messed around with it six ways from Sunday and it just don't work. Mine fell apart after just one season, so the warning has been issued, takeiterleaveit. Some people like 'em but not me.

I installed a Zane Thang about a year ago and was having some difficulty getting it to work to my satisfaction . I had misplaced (lost) the instructions Zane sent with the unit so I e-mailed him with my concerns. Like others have said, he suggested a couple of things to check and adjust - Zane is a very helpful fellow. It has been working like a charm on my 2085 ever since.

I recommend you talk to him before you give up on it.

Does your Zane Thang work ok when you keep the engine rpm's higher? At lower engine speeds your pump may not keep up with the internal leaks in the hydraulic system. This can become much more pronounced after you have worked the tractor hard and the oil gets warmed up. My Positioner works perfectly, and I have never had a problem with it.

I once sold a ZANE THANG to a man I think in Penn. He called me a few days after he got it installed on the tractor and told me that he could not get the lift arms to stay where he put them. He told me that he even went over to his neighbors and got him to come over and help him try to get it to work.

I questioned him as to how it was installed and he told me how he did it and it sounded to me like it should work but he insisted it wouldn't.

He told me that he could raise the lift arms by hand and as soon as he turned them loose they came all the way back down again.

I thought for a little while and although I was sorta ashamed to ask the question I asked him. Sir is the engine running and the PTO engaged when you are trying the ZANE THANG?????

Long silence----- ----- ----- ----- -----

Then he asked me, does the engine have to be runnig for your ZANE THANG to work?????

I swear it! :O)

Tom, I purchased a Zane Thang last week and it worked greet the first time I tried it. I am looking forward to working with it some more. You may want to e-mail Zane and he may be able to determine why yours is not working correctly. Mine is on a TO-30. Good luck

I have had a ZT for quite a while....couple of years anyway. It works as advertised, but I think it does require good hydraulics to start. I take my heavy 5' bushhog, and unhook the PTO for travel. I can drive 5 miles on my 2N with the Sherman overdrive keeping my speed in the mid teens. The lift never drops. To quote one popular TV info-mercial....you just "Set it and forget it". I did once have a slight problem where the implement would slowly creep up, but Zane gave me something to look for (can't remember, think something was loose), and it fixed it right away. Sorry your experiences haven't matched mine, nor any of the other satisfied users.

I have been watching the Ferguson and the Ford board for about 2 years. Yours is the first complaint that I know of Re: ZT that it does not work as advertised.

Tom I think you may have other problems with your hydraulics. The ZANE THANG cannot compensate for hydraulic problems. I fitted the ZANE THANG on my fergie and I had perfect position control immediatly. I can hang my implement 1/2" off the ground and it just stays there.

Sounds like you need to repair your lift cylinder. That will take care of the falling lift.
