TED 20 steering box seals

My next job is to replace the steering box seals in my TED 20. The steering box is integral with the gearbox cover. Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of before I remove the gearbox cover ie is anything likely to drop into the box..

Leave the steering wheel on, and flip the entire assembly upside down to work on it using the steering wheel as a stand.
CR 13027 seals will fit.
There is a plate under the cast part that is held on with slot-head screws, so you need two gaskets: one for between the plate and the steering box, and one for between the plate and the transmission housing.

Ray, It's a straightforward job. Just undo all the bolts and lift it off. Before taking them apart I would mark the position of the cam gears relative to their shafts for ease of re-assembly. As for the seals themselves, I suspect they will be the old metal and felt type as originally fitted. Drift them out carefully ant take to your nearest ball bearing dealer, (yellow pages). They will be able to measure them up and supply modern replacements. If you need any help, just e-mail me.

Thanks Peter and Jim I was just worried about any attachments to the gearbox lid. I think I was getting confused with removing the starter switch of course this will still be attached to the operating mechanism and I wont need to disturb it.
