Low oil pressure

Just recently got a TO-20 running that I bought in December. I only ran it for about 2 minutes and of course the oil pressure is really low - 5 lbs. I did install a new gauge so I am assuming it is accurate. What should I do first to improve the pressure? Should I just assume it is going to need new bearings and bite the bullet? Thanks

I ran the engine for a while and changed the oil and filter for the first time I have had it. The filter came out first then the spring which I believe is wrong. I put the filter in first then the spring. I thought it was kinda strange that when I drained the oil it was not even warm. I ran it long enough where it was good and warmed up. I almost thought the oil was not really circulating. Anyways, after the oil change (straight 30 weight) the pressure was about the same. 10-15 lbs max reved up and idle about 3-4.

you dont say if the 5lbs oil pressure is at working speed or idle, If its at idle we always found the Continental to be low on oil pressure when it had done some hours but it was ok when working. If the low oil pressure is at working speed then make sure you have the right grade of oil in the engine (not too light) and that the filter is clean and that the problem isnt the relief valve on the oil pump. Hope you dont have to do anything too drastic to your engine to get it back in service. Regards ..John
