John, I need your expertise. I had to replace the lift cylinder earlier because water had evidently settled in the cylinder when the arms were stuck in the up position, froze and busted the end of the cylinder out. After replacing the cylinder and regasketing the valve chamber housings on the pump, I reassembled everything. Then when I engaged the lift (with implement attached), it rose in a jerky fashion and fell, only to begin its ascent again. This behavior repeated itself constantly. A local tractor repairman told me that I have two things wrong. 1) The reason the lift rises and then falls is due to a maladjustment with the control valve forks, as a result of when the ice froze and busted the cylinder cap it also bent or damaged the lift linkage that attaches to the quadrant. Although, according to this guy, "the untrained eye could not detect any misalignment of the linkage apparatus." Is that possible?? Observation has shown me that in the upper most position, the piston rod/lifting ram never comes in contact with the adjustable linkage. Moreover, just the lower end of the fork (the bit that connects to the "T" on the control valve moves inward and outward of its own accord. When the valve is sucked in the arms raise; when the valve pushes out, it falls; all the while the quadrant is located in the uppermost lift position. 2)The jerkiness in the lift is caused by a sticking valve???
