Is this a good price?

A neighbor has a TO-30 with rear blade and front loader with a live power pump for the loader. I don't know the ser # or the year. He is asking $2500. It apears to be in good shape, but I have not heard it run yet. What years were the TO-30 produced?

Thanks for your input.

If it runs good then you are not getting hurt at that price. TO-30's were made from '51 to '54.

Go to the main H.Fergusen page and click on the Ser # link. Print out the TO-30, TO-20 and TE20 page then go look for an ID plate on the dash just above the steering wheel. If that is missing a quick check to see the type is the engine. On the left side is the cast number. Z120's indicate a TE or TO 20 and a Z129 indicates a TO30. Assuming no engine change during it's lifetime.

"Assuming no engine change during it's lifetime."

BTDT with my 1929(?) Cat 20. Engine & radiator out of a 1931 road grader.

After I posted the above, I found the chart you mentioned. And the Tractor Values on the sidebar helped, too.

But I wasn't sure where to find the ID plate! Thanks.

The ID plate is rivited to the dash, unless someone has removed it. Check the rear hydraulics with a load on it (PTO must be 'on' for the lift to work on these tractors). Look at engine closely for any cracks in the block or water in the oil. Tractors with loaders sometimes have front axle problems, so check for that. See if the charging system works properly. How does it steer? Steering boxes are expensive. Rear tires must be good and should be loaded with fluid to be effective with a loader. Just a few tips.

Thanks for the tips, guys.

BUT . . .

My wife wanted this pop-up camper she saw in the paper

SO . . .

The Ferguson is still for sale. It is in central Nebraska, if anyone would be interested, email me and I will get you in touch with the owner.

I'm in Va and not interested for that reason. However, tell your wife that in 10 years the pop-up camper will be worth no more than half what it costs now, and the tractor will be worth more than you are going to pay for it, if you keep it maintained....
