After a total rebuild of my TO-30. A total of 1.5 years. the coupler from the manifold to the exaust pipe melts after 2 to 5 minutes of running.
Any ideas?????

Sounds like no coolant flow. Take the thermostat out and look for flow in the radiator. A mistimed engine fill get real hot also but it ussually takes a while.

Have you followed the owners manual for adjustment of the timing, carb, valve lash, and checked the mechanical distributor advance? Is the water pump working properly, the V belt of proper size and adjusted properly? Have you removed the thermostat for temperature comparison, checked for obstructions in the cooling system such as the head gasket installed backwards? What exact temperature is the engine obtaining in that short period? That's my brainstorm for tonight, hope it gives you some ideas.

Ray, The melting point of aluminum is 660 df.
I dont have a thermometer that will go over 500 df. I haven't had time to check out your
sugustions or those from Rusty, but I will this weekend. Thanks, Randy

Guess I wasn't clear. The temperature I meant was actual coolant temperature measured through the radiator cap neck.This is where the top hose dumps coolant into the radiator for cooling.
