We have what I believe to be a Massey-Ferguson to30, based on pictures I've seen. I was surprised to see the mention of Harry-ferguson. I'd never heard that name before. Anyway, my nephew not only blew a hole in the engine (about 2 inches by 2 inches) but coninued to use the tractor, and then a week later, started it up again and ran it - now it has a 6 by 8 inch hole in the side, so I'm wondering what is the likelihood of being able to find a replacement engine? Other than this, it was in fine condition. I think, from pictures & memory, that it is probably a 1952 or so, model TO30, but I'm not certain how to determine that.

From the number given, it appears to be a 129. The first 2 is probably a Z. So TO30 is correct.
By the way, if your nephew still likes the way it runs, figure out how to cover the hole to keep the oil in, and see how long it keeps going. I've seen them with sheet metal patches screwed on. You might want to drain the chips out of the bottom.

Since you posted you don't know anything about these tractors, the first thing I suggest is to visit a MF dealer and buy the owners and shop manuals after determining your model tractor.
Used engines are available from the suppliers listed here, and from several other sources. To determine what you have, first look above the steering wheel for a dataplate which carries the information about that tractor, on TO series the model is at the very top. If the dataplate is missing, look on the driver side of the block above the distributor for cast on numbers. The number Z120 is used in TO20 tractors, the Z129 in used in TO30 tractors and Z134 is used in the TO35 tractors(these are the original engine CI also). If the numbers are other than these repost with the new information and someone will reply with correct model tractor. The mfgr year is not as important as the model. I'm told you may take all the casting numbers throughout the tractor to a MF dealer, and with some patience the dealer can be coaxed into researching for the correct mfgr year.

I will get out to the farm next week-end, but for now, I had my neice look at the tractor, and she found the following:
Engine # 2129-?821902--? may be a number, not sure
though. Patten # 080662
