TEA20 Will Not Start; Carb Problem?

My tea2085 ran fine when last used in October '02 but now will not start. It hits just enough to disengage the starter but doesn't even try to keep running. Ignition, timing, compression, fuel (fresh), and air/fuel flow to carb all are ok. Float needle on carb doesn't seal but has been a problem for several years (have to close fuel valve when engine stopped). It does look like it has gotten worse though. I cleaned the carb after eliminating other possibilities; all jets and passages look good, choke works. The weather has been cool here. Any ideas on what else to check? Could the high fuel level in the float bowl prevent it from starting? It hasn't in the past but air temps are usually higher when I use the tractor and the condition may have worsened. I've never been whipped on anything short of major mechanical failure before but this one is about to get me.

Try Autolite plugs the c plugs turn black.

Do you have good spark? Pull a plug wire and see how far it jumps. On carb, could try ether spray to see if that helps which might give you a hint whether carb or electrical. Any chance something hit the distributor while it was sitting and the cap might be cracked?

Yes, I've got a good hot spark. I've checked out everything on the ignition side and it seems to be ok. Every time I've had starting problems in the past, it was due to fouled points so ignition is the first thing I check. Thanks.

just tried to start mine tonight(hadn't been run since monday) hopped on turned key hit button turned over just fine. just didn't start. turns out that i throttled down all the way before i shut it down and the governor stuck in the idle position. as soon as i tugged on the governor rod, it started right up. i have owned this tractor 12 years and use it every 2 to 3 days. never had this problem before.
