After 6 years, I'm finally getting around to changing the transmission oil. What kind of oil do I use?

doug,S.A.E.80-90 GL-1 is the right oil-dont use ANYTHING else--chevron or kendal

Don't know where you're at but if theres a TSC store near you, I'll tell you how you can't miss. They sell oil in two and five gallon containers, You'll need six gallons. Look for the one with "for old Ford tractors 1939 to 1952" API service GL-5. It's about 90 wt. and that is the one you want. Fords the same as Ferguson in that department. By the way, while you got the time take off the passenger side cover plate (6 or 7" diameter plate) on side of differential above muffler and reach down inside (while you got oil drained out) and feel around in the casting webs (pockets) and see how much crud there is in them. You may want to clean that stuff out and flush with some kerosene or diesel fuel. It'll love you for it. Fred from the Mung Factory

Quoting the origianl owners manual for my 1956 TO-35 Deluxe, "Drain when oil is warm through two magnetic drain plugs and refill with straight mineral gear oil. Quadramatic control levers must be in lower position to drain ram cylinder. Capacity 8 gallons. SAE 90 above 50 degrees F, SAE 80 below 50 degrees F." I do like the suggestion of cleaning out the "sludge" if any as suggested in the previous reply.
