TO 20 Cream Green Paint

I seem to have a unique TO 20 (TO 30248) that was not painted the usual mouse grey. Mine has cream (yellowish-tan) colored fenders, hood and wheels. Everything else (body/frame, engine, trans, axles, radiator, guage panel, gas tank and all rods, springs etc.) are painted a dark green (almost a blackish green). I believe it is an original factory paint job because it had to have been painted as "components". I have read that in 1955 Ferguson used this color scheme on some of the model 35's. Last week I ran on to a fellow who showed me an original owners manual for the 1955 Ferguson model 35, and the colored picture on the cover is my exact tractor. I have some theories as to why my 1950 TO 20 was painted as it was, but am wondering if any of you other TO 20 owners have one painted like mine? I'm going to be repainting soon and will be trying to match colors as best I can.

Ferguson TO-35's were painted gray/flint metallic green from late 1954 until the spring/early summer of 1956. For the next 18 months they were painted beige/flint gray (a few in in spring/early summer were painted beige/metallic green). I'd be very surprised if the owner's manual for a 1955 TO-35 had the photo of a beige/flint gray tractor. I have original owner manuals for both the early 6v 1955 and the later 12v 1955. They are both gray/metallic green. If you can put me in touch with the owner of that 1955 owners manual, I'd love to talk to him.

As to your beige/green TO-20, it is highly unliikely that it was a factory paint job. My guess is that someone did a high quality repaint to match the color of a beige/green TO-35. Harry Ferguson insisted on painting all his Fergusons gray. The colors were not changed until after he sold his company to Massey-Harris.

Regardless, paint your tractor whatever color pleases you.

Thanks for your reply. Even as we speak, a color copy of the TO 35 "Cream and Green" cover I spoke of is being emailed to you. I had understood it was an owners manual, but after closer inspection last night, it is actually a "multi-fold" sales brochure that when folded out is about 2 ft x 3 ft and details the features of the 35. The publish date was 3/1/55. None the less, the tractor photo on the cover is cream and green..... ..... and on the surface looks just like my TO20. If as you say, my TO 20 was originally gray, whoever painted it cream and green did a most professional job. I'd like to find that person again, because as one example, I can't imagine someone taking the time to remove all the guages to paint the underside of the guage panel and the detail with springs, levers and other components that are painted inside and out; also leave no evidence of masking or overspray. Can't imagine that kind of detail in an after mfg. paint job. My repaint won't be that good, but it'll be as good as I can do it. Still curious about any other cream and green units out there though.
