I have a 1955 MF TO35. No lights so it dosent get run much after dark. I have always noticed that it can generate a lot of heat. To the point where my right foot gets hot on the running board. Anyway, I was using it at night a couple of weeks ago and noticed that the exhaust pipe and manifold got so warm that they actually glow red. Since I noticed this I have run the tractor at night just to see if it did the same thing. It does.. The Tractor seems to run fine. Anyone else with a similar tractor notice this. Just wondering if maybe the timing is to high or maybe something is making it burn really hot.. Hmmm..

I think Dennis has it however, make sure your advance works also. It could be timed correctly at idle or engine off but advance needs to work also. I would think if the advance did not work at all you would notice a lack of power.

Another factor to consider is power jet setting. Harry Ferguson motors are disigned to use fuel for engine cooling to an extent. Follow the owners manual for setting the carb, the correct setting causes the engine to run rich at idle and without load. The engine will run correctly then under load and somewhat cooler. This coupled with aforementioned timing will burn up an engine eventually. You've read of the cracked block problem, this is the cause-overheating.
