I recently rebuilt the carborator and it ran fine for about an hour. The next day I couldn't get spark. After replacing the points, condensor, and coil, I was able to get spark and it started up for about 45 seconds after that it won't start unless you let it rest for a few minutes. I checked the fuel lines and I get good flow to the drain in the carborator.

I'm not sure if it is getting flooded or if there is another problem. Do I need to rebuild the carborator again? Any help would be appreciated.

Dustin, I had that happen to a Ford i once owned. It turned out to be a piece of trash in the carb. A guy helping me check it out switched the spark plug wires so it misfired and it cleared it out. I'm not suggusting you do that but it worked on the ford.

Dustin, happened again with me ! This time I changed the coil. It has been changed to a 12volt system. Had the wrong 12volt on it. Went to NAPA parts and got the right one. Now runs like a charm. George

I reworked the carburter last night and put it back on this afternoon. It ran for about 10 seconds and then the same. I verified that I had spark and occationally I was able to get it to fire and notice when it did fire that some smoke came out of the air intake. I tried priming it with starter fluid but no luck. I guess it's time to either buy a new carb or get a mechanic to rebuild it. Any other ideas? Thanks,

Dustin -Had the same thing happen to me. Replace the condensor and should run fine if everything else is good. You could have a bad one even if it is new. My two cents worth.Good luck!

Dustin - Be sure to check spark plugs also. They can mess up when it misfires . Again Good Luck!

As Ray said, float may be stuck. Maybe there is a burr that makes it stick even after you clean it. I assume when you were priming it with starter fluid you had the air cleaner disconnected, so that probably isn't it. Did you verify that you are getting gas to the carb in good strong flow? How about the filter at the elbow where the line goes into the carb? Open the bottom drain in the carb and see if it pours out for at least a minute (into a clean can). If not, your line is clogged or your float is stuck.

Was it doing something similar before you rebuilt carb? Just curious why you rebuilt it. I assume you are getting a good hot blue spark now. If not, look there first, of course. If you are getting good spark now, maybe another thing to check, especially if you are in very cold area, is the air cleaner. Does it run with the air cleaner disconnected? Sometimes moisture in the air cleaner will freeze and clog it up.

I suspect a sticking float or a major air leak around the throttle plate rod.
