I'm hoping someone can help!I have a "51"(i think yr.)TO-20 6volt positive ground system.I was told to jump the voltage control regulator when ever the battery was disconnected and reconnected to get the battery to charge. This seemed to work fine until lately. After I charge the battery and put it in, when I hook up the cables the AMP meter reads around -10 or more(discharging). If the battery is fully charged I can get the tractor started. The AMP meter may even show signs of charging + once in a while when running. When I shut the tractor off and try and restart it it shows the - discharging and won't start, the battery will need recharged again. I did check the wiring and made sure nothing is touching the frame.I think it may be the voltage control regulator? Do I have to jump the regulator to get the system to charge?Any HELP would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy the Holiday's
Thanks in Advance!!!

Polarizing the voltage regulator should not be required when you remove and reinstall the battery. It would most logically be required when you install a new voltage regulator. Polarization only takes an instant. If you do so for more than that you can damage the generator or voltage regulator. At this point, I think you could have a bad battery, generator problem, or voltage regulator problem or combination. (Or perhaps a wiring problem.) I would eliminate the possibilities and the quickest and surest way is to take the three likely areas to an automotive electrical shop who can test them for you. Mark your various wires to the VR and Gen. before you remove them. To some extent I'm making that recommendation based on the way you asked your questions, no offense. Hope that helps.
