I am still having trouble with this te 20. I am working on it for someone else... The newly installed to 20 flywheel and ring gear sit about two inches from the starter mounting flange--measured to the back of the ring gear. My starter does not engage it. I am still not sure if any of the parts that I have installed are correct. Does the ring gear mount anywhere other than the boss that is closest to the clutch. THere is a ledge closer to the engine block, but the ring gear is too large in diameter to mount there. I have to ask this question as no other pursuit has solved the problem.

My TO 20 is an early model with the same flywheel you are replacing. My ring gear slipped off the backside also. Here is what I did. I drilled about 6 or 8 evenly spaced holes around the flywheel near the ring gear and now hold the ring gear with tapped holes with 5/16 bolts with washers. I either bent the washers or ground one side off a bit . This was done about 20 years ago and has worked fine ever since. I wonder if you have the correct flywheel . The later TO 20 flywheel is supposed to fit no problem.

Are You Sure That Flywheel Is The Right One?In Your Post You Say Te20 Tractor With A TO20 Flywheel.Dont Know If They Are Different Or Not But Its Possible.Mine Is Still Together Or I Would Go Look.Are You Sure Its Not On Backwards.Not Trying To Be Smart.Just Trying To Help.

I have an I&T manual for this tractor and it says to use the TO20 ring gear and flywheel to replace the TE20 parts. The two flywheels are different, the TO unit has a ledge on the rear edge to prevent the ring gear from falling off.

Will The Old Flywheel Fit So The New Starter Would Work?Has To Be The New Starter Or The New Flywheel.Either The New Starter Is To Short Or The New Flywheel Is To Far Away.Might Have To Get A Different Flywheel.Good Luck

I have figured out a solution to my querie! I reinstalled the old flywheel with the ring gear on the front side of the flywheel. The Delco replacement starter that I got from MF mates perfectly. Finally I have a happy customer!
