My T035 only lifts about 500 pounds, lighter loads do lift high off ground, no noises.

I am using sae 30, but see that was bad advice. I will drain and replace if that is all the problem is but don't want to do that until problem is fixed. Could the oil weight be the problem?

What other things might be going on?

I have people tell me that they use SAE 30 oil, but I would think there will be a performance issue compared to the 90 wt M1103 oil called in the Ferguson manuals. You could have a leak, but not very serious if lifting 500 lbs. When functioning properly, it should lift more than twice that. Before changing oil remove the side inspection plate and look carefully for oil leaks from the top work ram cylinder and around the relief valve(roiling oil). I would replace the relief valve and the oil if you don't see any other problems.

Yep! Motor oil will ruin the pump and bushings, the additives and detergents are the culprits that you want to avoid. The specified fluid is 80/90WT. straight mineral oil. The relief valve is set for 2,000lbs., and if weak will cause your complaint. If you use a Ford relief valve (same design), remember, they are set for 1,700lbs. and will limit your total lifting capacity somewhat. A search for past discussions of this will net you lots of reading and information.
