I have a TO-35. I cannot get the PTO to engage when the tractor is running. I adjusted the clutch pedal according to my shop manual but it didnt help. I don't have any problem with the transmission. Gears shift easily with clutch engaged. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

I find that on my MF TO-35 that I need to idle all the way down before I try shifting the PTO into gear. I supposed my 2-stage clutch isn't adjusted right, but I don't use the tractor much...

Hello Gandy -

Sounds like you have a 2 stage clutch.

If so, we've found the same problem when the clearances are set to the factory spec of .085-.090". Clutch also won't release with the pedal to the floor, with the pedal free play travel in the 1/2" range.

We set them to .055-.060"; that works.

You can adjust the settings from below through the inspection hole. Be very careful not to strip the lock nuts or cap screw heads; they're usually quite stiff, and if you strip them you'll have to split the tractor to finish the job.

It's well worth getting two new high quality combination wrenches to reduce the risk!

Good luck.
