Thank you Phil and Duner for your imput on my tractor situation, but i have another issue with her today. I replaced the coil yesterday and now I am getting spark, but after I put the carb kit in I am still not getting gas from the carb to the manifold. I dumped some gas into the 1+2 cylinders via the spark plug and jumped the tractor off of my pick up because the 6 volts of raw cranking power isn't cutting it. It almost fired, it was making that all familar low rpm lugging sound from the exhaust and thought it was gonna happen. But the little gas that I put in it ran out before it could start. Which leads me back to my problem: I can not get my carb to send the gas in to the manifold. I am getting gas to my carb but not from the carb out. Like I said i just rebuilt it and now it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

are plug wires on correctly you have gas coming back out the carb maybe wires are on wrong and plugs are firing at wrong time.

Phil, Tom had already mentionned he had installed a kit in his carb but you are correct to suggest inspecting fuel flow at elbow. Other than that assuming the needles are ajusted correctly, the main needle which blocks or let fuel fill the bowl may be stuck closed which you may have to dissassemble carb again and check that the needle really is in free play mode. You could squirt a little oil. At same time verify that your float once installed on carb upper casing is parallell to the top casing when needle is closed. The tongues are very easily bent and can close needle before enough fuel goes through. It would be wise to clean everything again and use compressed air to clean all openings big or small. One other thing that is often overlooked is the free play on choke shaft that can let too much air in resulting in a too lean mixture. Check this brass shaft closely. One quick remedy is to use a carton washer tightened with nut.

Good Luck

Well, if you are exactly correct, i.e., if you are defintely getting spark and not gas and you know you are getting gas to the carb, then one of two things must be happening. Either the filter at the elbow going into the carb is clogged or the carb has some internal problem like a stuck float or clogged jet. (Let's assume you have compression, another possible problem.) Pull the air intake hose and squirt starter fluid as you crank it. See if that helps. If the float is stuck, often gas will flow back out the air intake. If so, that will be a key hint that you have a carb problem. Pull the line off the carb where it enters and make sure nothing is stuck in that elbow. As you jump it off your 12 volt truck, make sure you bypass the battery and ignition on the tractor. Hook directly to the starter on the tractor and just touch the ground from the truck to a ground on the tractor. (Make darn sure the tractor is out of gear!!) Otherwise the 12 volt truck battery will damage your tractor ignition components. If none of that helps, I would suggest you pull the carb and clean it thoroughly and put a kit in it, not a hard job. HTH.

Phil, When i first took the carb off I put a kit in it and cleaned the filter. the kit came with a new jet and the float wasn't sticking. But the reason why I put a kit in this was because it was blowing gas back out of the air intake. I am going to take the carb back off and see what i find today. My Tractor starts by pushing the shifter up and to the right--someone told me it was a safety feature--. Thanks for the help so far, hopefully I will make some more progress on it tonight. I will keep you posted. My tractor definetly has a z120 engine in it if that helps to identify it.

I understand how these tractors normally start, but if you jump it off your 12 volt truck, you don't want to start it that normal way, or you will create more problems. (Is that what has happened?)

phil is right, i just had to put a new regulator on my t0-30 because the guy i bought it from was jumping the 6volt system with a truck, all the connections were melted -- $54.00 i could have spent somewhere else.
