PTO seal replacement

I have noticed my PTO shaft cover has a few ounces of oil in it when I take it off to use it and I notice oil on the ground after using the PTO, so since I had to repair the pump(other issues) I thought I would repair the PTO . Checked all the forum question and answers on this subject but no one commented on a worn and pitted oil sleeve(seal fits over it). Mine has a groove worn in the middle and a lot of pitting. I presume this is not an isolated case and am wondering what people have done to fix this as I think it will continue to leak with a new seal unless it is cleaned up. I have been told I can use a "speedy sleeve" to go over the original sleeve to "hide" the wear and put the seal over this new sleeve and all will be well. Anyone have any experience doing this? Or is it necessary?

The whole idea of the wear sleeve is so the shaft is safe.Call your local massey dealer,its only a few bucks. Sometimes you can install the seal to a different depth to run in a good spot.

Kevin, checked with the parts folks at MH and they say no replacement sleeves available for the 1 and 1/8 shafts which I want to keep as that was the original size. Sleeves are available for the 1 and 3/8 shafts however. So, I am going to use the Speedy Sleeve approach.

Kevin, well that is a good idea. I kind of assumed the sleeve was not available as none of my catalogs list it(only the seal and shafts) and my MH dealer never suggested it as he pointed me to a bearing store for the speedy sleeve. So, I will ask him. Thanks.
