Te20 starter

Can someone tell me what starter a te 20 takes? I have no starter for this unit and I am told that a Ford 8N starter will work. I just replaced the flywheel and ring gear. The reman 8N starter I bought binds on the ring gear. Any suggestions? I have been told that I need a Lucas starter, not a Delco.

if it is a TEA with the overhead valve brit motor, you need a Lucas starter. what will work from an 8n, is the hand crank. If you have a Lucas starter you will get used to hand cranking. Good luck, kev

You have either been unlucky with your starter(s) or you've had some electrical problem I think. The Lucas starters have a good reputation and are usually easily fixed if they need a service.

I still carry the hand crank for my TED, but have never yet needed to use it since fixing the electrical system. Now I think I'll leave the crank at home, as some light-fingered son of someone might be tempted to lift it if they own a 8N or a TE with dodgy electrics ;-)
