What's going on with my tractor?????

I've got a '52 TO30. A few weeks ago (some of you may remember this post), while brushhogging, I lost oil pressure, and the engine locked up. I thought I had galded it. After a few days, it cranked over and started up. The rear oil seal had been leaking, so I parked it, split the tractor, and changed the seal. There were no filings in the oil pan like something had been ground up or anything. There was no coolant or gas in the oil as far as I could tell. There was a boatload of thick, black, pasty gunk in the bottom of the oil pan, and in the oil filter, which obviously hadn't been changed in some time. I was hoping that maybe that stuff had clogged up the oil flow and led to the lock-up. After I got it back together, I started it up and ran it up and down the driveway. Oil pressure was up around 15-30 or so (as long as RPM was high; when RPM dropped, so did oil pressure). The lifters seemed to be clattering a bit, but they always did that, and the tractor's older than me, and my lifters clatter too. After it warmed up, I was making some adjustments to the idle setting, and it locked up again! I wasn't paying attention to the oil gauge at the time, so I don't know if the pressure went to zero again or not. It seems like the top half of the engine's drying out and locking it up. Is this possible? Is it possible that the oil pump has become too weak to do its job? Are clogged oil passages possible? Would it be worth trying a rebuild of the oil pump? Or am I just fooling myself into thinking that this doesn't mean a major engine rebuild? Sorry about the length of this. Thanks for any ideas.

Was the engine running and locked up while running or did it lock up when you tried to start it after making adjustments??

It does not sound good . Oil is bypassing some where From your oil pump the thru the filter then to your mains on the crank it is hear the oil pressure is lost It sounds like your pump is still doing it job If you dont use the tractor in the winter try useing strait 50 weight oil like the kind they use for diesels I did this and it helped a bit my motor was very worn and i am rebuilding it undre size bearings the works good luck.
