I want to put a thermostat in my TEA20. My MF dealer says they are n/a. Does any one have a part number from NAPA or from some other sourse for one and a gasket here in Canada?

The TEA20 is just a standard car motor, so most thermostats will fit. Just a matter of selecting temperature. Usually quite a bit of corrosion around the top pipe and alloy assembly. I have often read that it is unwise to run without a thermostat, as it actually makes cooling worse without it?
I had problems with overheating and unsoldered the top header off the radiator, poked a dip stick down the tubes (carefuly!) and it been perfect ever since.

Glenn,
The thermostat in a TEA does not go in the hose like on a TO; it fits in a casting like on a car. I am sure they are available someplace. I'll check mine when I get home for a part #, and whether it is the same size as the Triumph one. If it is, they are easy to get. I am pretty sure it's a 70 degree model (160 F).

Hello Jim

I used the old Triumph car trick at a local NAPA and found a thermostat that should fit. I haven't found the time yet to install it. If it does not fit they said I could return it. The tractor part site suggested below in another post lists thermostats for both the TEA's and TO's one for a housing like mine and one for the hose like a TO. However it did not list a new part number. I did not check it out further because they are to far away from me anyhow.

Glenn,
I had forgotten that I have a NOS MF thermostat at home. I checked it out last night; it's a bellows type (which should help slightly with the bypass hose deal) but to my surprise it's only 140F!
Maybe someone can comment why a tractor needs to run so cold. I can't remember seeing a thermostat that low before.

I've lost my receipts, but a search will find posts with the NAPA, and Carquest numbers. I just visit the local Carquest store and request a stat for a TO30. They have reference catalogs for Harry Ferguson parts. The same stat fits the TO20 and 30- into the top radiator hose, and I suspect fits all Harry Ferguson tractors with the same top hose.
